Walk-in Corcovado National Park

A visit to the Osa Peninsula must include Corcovado National Park.  In the company of an expert, naturalist guide, a hike through this bio-rich protected area covering 41800 hectares teeming with wildlife dwellers of the rainforest, sandy coastline, lagoons, mangroves, and rivers.   It is home to some of the world´s endangered species including the Tapir, Jaguars, Scarlet Macaws among others. Hiking boots, binoculars, and the desire to truly experience the tropics up close are a must for this walk in the park.

Costa Rica is a paradise for birdwatchers and the Osa Peninsula is a favorite for spotting migratory and endemic birds.  Have your binoculars ready and eagle eyes alert to see a myriad of bird species including the motmots, the spectacular scarlet macaw, the mangrove hummingbird, and the yellow-billed cotinga.

Certain beaches on the Osa Peninsula are the nesting fields of four species of sea turtles too. The loggerhead, leatherback, Olive Ridley, and green sea turtles arrive during different times of the year and under the light of the moon to lay their eggs.  A sight to see and highly emotional.

Take to the Seas

As the peninsula is surrounded by the ocean, La Cuna Corcovado is the perfect basecamp to take to the seas.  The Golfo Dulce is the breeding and birthing grounds of the gentle giants of the oceans, the humpback whales that migrate yearly to the warm, protected waters of the gulf. 

The tropical waters of the Osa Peninsula are also a fishing hotspot and are one of the best in the world! So, for the eager anglers, take a half-day in-shore fishing experience or why not an off-shore full-day tour to really go for the big fish including marlin, yellowfin tuna, sailfish, and Mahi Mahi just to name a few.

Cabo Matapalo that sits on the far southern tip of the Osa Peninsula is a surfer’s dream come true!  There are breaks and swells for beginners up to pro-level riders of the waves. Further down the coast is the famous Pavones Beach with its legendary left-hand break that is one of the longest in the world.
